Ingredients

For Crust:

  • 1.5 cups almond flour

  • ¼ cup arrowroot powder

  • 2 tbsp granola (I used Purely Elizabeth Grain-Free Apple Walnut Granola!)

  • ¼ cup ghee (melted) or coconut oil (melted)

  • ¼ cup maple syrup

  • Pinch of sea salt

For Filling:

  • 6 – 7 apples, peeled, cored, and sliced or diced

  • 2 tbsp coconut oil

  • 2 tbsp maple syrup

  • 1 tbsp arrowroot powder

  • Pinch of sea salt

For Crumble Topping:

  • 1.5 cups almond flour

  • 2 tbsp granola (lightly ground in a blender or crushed by hand)

  • 1 teaspoon cinnamon

  • 2 tbsp ghee or coconut oil (softened)

  • 2 tbsp maple syrup

Instructions

  1. Crust first! In a large bowl combine almond flour, arrowroot powder, granola, and salt and combine. Add in the melted ghee or coconut oil, and mix all together with fingertips, spatula, or pastry blender until it creates a dough. Stir in maple syrup and form dough into a ball. Place in the fridge for about an hour.

  2. While you wait for the dough, make the apple filling. In a large skillet warm coconut oil then add apples and sauté for 5 minutes. Add in maple syrup and continue to stir for 5 more minutes or until the apples become soft. Then add in cinnamon, arrowroot powder, and a pinch of salt. Stir the apples until a nice gooey texture is formed on the apples – about 2 minutes. Remove from heat and cool.

  3. While apples cool, time to make the crumbles! In a bowl mix together dry ingredients. Once mixed add in coconut oil or ghee and maple syrup. Use your fingers to press ingredients together until crumb-like texture forms. Give the bowl a light shake to toss the crumbs around. Set aside for halfway through baking.

  4. After an hour remove the crust dough from the fridge. Roll out the dough into a large square or circle between two pieces of parchment paper. Place dough in your 8 or 9 inch baking dish. Press crust with fingertips to evenly spread throughout the dish.

  5. Preheat oven to 350ºF. Add the apple filling on top of the crust and bake covered for 30 minutes. After 30 minutes gently press crumb topping on top of the apples and place back in the oven uncovered. Bake for 20 more minutes or until the crumb topping is an even golden brown.

  6. Allow to cool and enjoy! *add your favorite dairy-free ice cream or whip!*
